Themba Zwane and Sundowns fined by PSL 

Mamelodi Sundowns and winger Themba Zwane have been fined by the PSL Disciplinary Committee [DC]. 

Bafana Ba Style and Zwane were found guilty of delaying the kick-off time of their MTN8 quarter-final clash against Moroka Swallows a week ago. 

Masandawana walked away victorious after defeating the Dube Birds with a 1-0 scoreline to book the semi-final spot. Sundowns will now face another Soweto giants, Kaizer Chiefs. 

Rulani Mokwena’s side delayed the kick-off time of the clash for three minutes, as previously revealed by the PSL Prosecutor Zola Majavu. 

Sundowns and Zwane pleaded guilty as charged by the PSL DC. 

Bafana Bafana star Zwane was fined an amount of R20 000, half of which is suspended on condition that he does not commit the same offence during the period of the suspension [12 months].

Meanwhile, Masandawana were fined a monetary amount of R50 000, half of which is suspended on the same terms.

Both parties were further ordered to pay the costs of the DC sittings.

THE PSL DC’S OUTCOME BY PSL PROSECUTOR ZOLA MAJAVU

“Having been duly charged, they have appeared before the PSL DC this morning and pleaded guilty as charged. 

“The league’s DC accepted the guilty plea. Having listened to that, the PSL DC deliberated over the matter and returned with the following ruling

“a) With regards to Mr Zwane, he was fined a monetary of R20 000, half of which is suspended for a period of 12 months on condition that during the period of suspension, he’s not found guilty of the same offence again.

“The PSL DC has also taken the note that Mr Zwane was already cautioned by the referee in question.

“b) With regards to his employer, Mamelodi Sundowns, they were fined a monetary of R50 000, and half of which is suspended on the same terms.

“Effectively between Mr Zwane and Mamelodi Sundowns, they have to pay an accumulative amount of R35 000.

“They were further directed to carry the costs of the sittings. And lastly, they were further directed to send a written apology to the league as well as the sponsors. Such an apology must be carried on the Mamelodi Sundowns’ official website.”
