Thatayaone Ditlhokwe on Chiefs’ poor start to the season

Kaizer Chiefs defender Thatayaone Ditlhokwe has reflected on his side’s poor start to the 2023/24 DStv Premiership season.

Ditlhokwe was one of the players headlining the Soweto giants’ new signings coming from SuperSport United.

Upon his arrival at Amakhosi, he became one of the key players at the heart of the back alongside Given Msimango.

The Botswana skipper has donned the Chiefs jersey four times, making starts. Despite his efforts, the Glamour Boys have been struggling in the league as they are yet to register their first victory of the season.

They are 13th on the log standings, 14 points behind log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns. Chiefs have drew once and suffered two defeats.

According to Ditlhokwe, it’s still early days as the team is still new with a lot of faces. To add, there is a new coach in Molefi Ntseki.

“It’s about gelling together, knowing each other, knowing the strengths and weakness, working on those weaknesses so that they can turn to strengths,” Ditlhokwe.

“Obviously, we joining other new players so we can understand each other. It’s not something that will click on there and there.

“It’s something that needs training and perfection. Perfection comes only through training and playing games.”

THATAYAONE DITLHOKWE ON BRANDON PETERSEN MISTAKES

Ditlhokwe further weighed in on the mistakes that have been made at the back by goalkeeper Brandon Petersen, costing them some valuable points at the back.

The 24-year-old believes football is a team sport. Therefore, they shouldn’t point fingers if mistakes are made.

“Football is a sports thing, everybody must be together. It’s not the time to point fingers that this one has made mistakes if we win, we win together. If we lose, we lose together,” he added.

Chiefs will be aiming to get their first league victory when they host AmaZulu, another side still searching first victory.

Kickoff at FNB Stadium on Saturday is at 5:30 pm.
