What has surprised Jose Riveiro at Pirates

Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro has revealed one thing that has surprised him so far this season at the club.

The Soweto giants have started the new campaign on a fairly good note. In five matches in all competitions, they have come out victorious in three, drew one and lost one.

There are multiple players that have performed well so far this season. They’ve shown signs that they can help the club to have yet another great season. Last season, the Happy People won two trophies: MTN8 and Nedbank Cup.

These players include Zakhele Lepasa, Relebohile Mofokeng, Patrick Maswanganyi, Thabang Monare and Tapelo Xoki.

JOSE RIVEIRO SURPRISED BY ORLANDO PIRATES’ SCORING FORM

The Spaniard revealed that he’s surprised with the scoring form his side has been doing in front of goal. The Bucs have been ruthless when it comes to scoring, netting 11 goals in all competitions.

“I’m surprised with us scoring goals, to be honest. If I’m not mistaken, after the game we lost against Kaizer Chiefs one-nil, we managed to score in 16 games in a row until we played Stellenbosch a few weeks ago,” said Riveiro.

“The moment we didn’t score against Stellenbosch, the first question was we having problems in front of the goal. I think we need to be a bit more concrete when we start to create that type of narrative around our game, which is not true.

“In the same period, our percentage of goals is zero point fifty-eight or zero point sixth-one goals conceded, which is low in the country. If we start to create that kind of narrative, it seems our strikers are not scoring, which is not true and is and extra pressure around us and our players, which they really don’t deserve.”
