Sammy Seabi opens up on his Mamelodi Sundowns return

Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Sammy Seabi wants to utilise the latest opportunity to cement a regular place in the star-studded side.

Seabi has been recalled to the Sundowns team for the 2023/24 PSL season. This comes after a decent loan spell at fellow DStv Premiership side Sekhukhune United last season.

The 28-year-old, who joined Masandawana in 2019 from Polokwane City, has also had loan spells at clubs such as Chippa United and Moroka Swallows.

SAMMY SEABI GRATEFUL FOR ANOTHER MAMELODI SUNDOWNS OPPORTUNITY

“It feels good [to be back],” said Seabi. “There is always a right time for everything, but it all comes with hard work.”

“You just need to have the hunger to say I can make it. It is not the first time I have been there, and I was loaned, so now I am back, and I am hoping for the best.

“I will try to work hard as much as I can to help the team and help myself to improve. Football is a short career so you should try as much as you can to use the time you have,” added Seabi.

He also shares what head coach Rulani Mokwena told him upon his return to the side.

“The coach didn’t say much, he just said ‘My boy, I want you to come and help the team where you can. Work very hard’. So that’s what I am planning to do to return the favour because he gave me the opportunity. So it’s not easy, but I will try to work my way back to the Sammy ‘Viera’ that I used to be.”

ON THE DIFFICULT COMPETITION WITHIN THE MASANDAWANA SQUAD

Seabi is also aware that it will not be easy to break into the starting line-up, given the competition in the sundowns midfield.

“There is a lot of competition. But competition is healthy, so it makes you grow more, and I am up for it. I am just waiting for my time. When I get the time [to play], I use my time to deliver and help the team.

Seabi was speaking to the media after his donation of school shoes to three schools in his home province of Limpopo. Through his Sammy Seabi Foundation, the midfielder has an initiative where he hands food parcels, school shoes and uniforms to the needy within his community at Ga-Mamabolo, Limpopo.
