Kompany on Foster scoring his first EPL goal: ‘We are pleased but’…

Vincent Kompany has singled out Lyle Foster for praise after the Bafana Bafana striker scored his maiden Premier League goal, but one thing remains a cause for concern for the Burnley FC manager.

Foster, who is adored by Kompany, opened his EPL account just after the half-time break as Burnley FC went down 3-1 to Aston Villa at Turf Moor on Sunday.

The Bafana forward’s exceptional turn and volley after outmuscling Pau Torres in the box reduced the deficit to 2-1, and Burnley threatened to make a remarkable comeback.

In an intense and exciting 10-minute spell after Foster’s goal, the Clarets had numerous opportunities to equalise. However, Villa held firm and struck again as Burnley FC had committed more men forward.

Foster became the ninth South African player to find the back of the net in England’s topflight and the first since Bafana and Everton legend Steven Pienaar in October 2013.

The 22-year-old also put in a good shift in his EPL debut for the 2022/23 Championship winners against Manchester City a fortnight ago.

He has impressed many, including his coach Kompany, since joining Burnley FC for a record SA transfer fee in January from KVC Westerlo in Belgium.

KOMPANY REACTS TO FOSTER’S FIRST GOAL IN THE EPL

“We can’t forget his age, he’s still fairly young. But he’s just continuing what we’ve seen in the entire pre-season,” said Vincent Kompany.

“He has the speed to run in behind. He’s strong to hold the ball up. In addition, he’s able to combine with his teammates and able to score a goal as well.

“For him, we’re obviously really pleased. But for the team, the reward will be the first time we win a game.”

Burnley have lost their first two games on their return to the Premier League, and Kompany, who is a former Man City defender, admitted that: “learning comes at a price in the Premier League.”
