Ntseki draws on Sir Alex Ferguson’s experience to turn around Chiefs’ fortunes
Kaizer Chiefs coach Molefi Ntseki draws inspiration from Sir Alex Ferguson‘s early challenges at Manchester United as he seeks to turn around the Soweto giants’ fortunes.
Ntseki, appointed Chiefs coach ahead of the 2023/24 season, has taken over a team struggling in the DStv Premiership.
In his first five games in charge, he has lost two, won two and drawn once. One of the wins was in the MTN8 quarterfinal, as they secured a place in the semi-final.
NTSEKI LOOKS TO SIR ALEX’S EXPERIENCE
Ferguson also faced early challenges when he took over at Manchester United in 1986. The club had finished 11th in the previous season, and Ferguson was tasked with rebuilding the team.
The Scott eventually led Manchester United to over 40 trophies, including 13 Premier League titles and two Champions League titles. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest managers of all time.
Ntseki is hoping to emulate Ferguson’s success at Chiefs. He said that he is inspired by Ferguson’s ability to overcome adversity.
“I always look back at the people who came before me. I always look at some of the top coaches in the world,” Ntseki told journalists. “Sir Alex Ferguson, when he joined Man United, they weren’t happy with him in the first season. But he ended up becoming the most successful manager.
“You also look at Pep Guardiola when he joined Man City. His first year was not very good. But he ended up becoming the best coach in the world. So you look at what happened to our own Pitso Mosimane when he was at Sundowns.”
BIGGEST VICTORY SO FAR
Molefi Ntseki guided Amakhosi to their biggest victory so far when they hammered AmaZulu FC 3-on on Saturday at the FNB Stadium.
New signings Pule Mmodi and Edson Castillo were on target. Mmodi struck twice, with Castillo’s header sealing a morale-boosting victory.
It was their first league win, and Chiefs will look to build on that when they visit Stellenbosch FC on Wednesday in Cape Town.
It remains to be seen whether Ntseki can turn things around at Chiefs. But he is undoubtedly setting the right tone by drawing inspiration from Ferguson’s experience.
