Sundowns beat PLK City to extend winning streak

Mamelodi Sundowns beat Polokwane City 2-0 in a DStv Premiership clash to extend their winning streak at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Rulani Mokwena‘s boys started the showpiece on a front foot, pushing forward in numbers.

In the 11th minute of the game, a penalty was awarded to Sundowns after Marcelo Allende was brought down in the box.

Ribeiro Costa stood up to take the penalty, and he did not make any mistake as he found the back of the net from the spot kick.

Despite Bafana Ba Style taking the lead, City were never discouraged. They fought to find an equaliser, but it was never meant to be.

As the half wore on, the visitors couldn’t capitalise on their clear-cut chances as Lehlohonolo Seema’s side remained disciplined at the back.

But, Sundowns continued up the ante – taking the command of the showdown.

MAMELODI SUNDOWNS LEADING AT THE BREAK

In the second stanza, Sundowns continued where they had left off before the half-time break.

Just five minutes into the second half, Costa completed his brace, extending Sundowns’ lead.

The Brazilians continued to put in a resilient defensive performance to rebuff the efforts of the home side’s forwards.

MAMELODI SUNDOWNS CLAIM THREE POINTS

The final whistle blew with Sundowns claiming all valuable three points.

So far, Sundowns remain the only side yet to drop points this season.

To add to that, Masandawana are unbeaten in 30 games. They have won 24 games and drew six in the process.

Currently, Sundowns are flourishing on the summit of the DStv Premiership log standings with 18 points after six games.

Meanwhile, City are placed eighth with six points after five games. However, their position will be determined by other league games set to start at 19:30.
