Eric Tinkler’s bold claim despite a slow start to the new season

Cape Town City FC coach Eric Tinkler has made a bold claim despite yet another slow start to the 2023/24 PSL season.

On Tuesday, the Capetonians lost 2-0 to Soweto giants Orlando Pirates away from home in the DStv Premiership. The defeat left them lying 10th on the log standings.

Just like last campaign, CT City have been inconsistent in their performances. After six matches in all competitions, they’ve won their first two and suffered four straight defeats.

The Citizens have also been struggling in front of goal, only netting two goals. At the back, CT City have been shaky, conceding six goals.

In contrast to last season, after six outings, they had registered a single win, two draws and suffered three defeats. They had scored four goals and let in eight goals.

ERIC TINKLER’S BOLD CLAIM AFTER SLOW START

Despite the results not coming their way, Tinkler claims that performance-wise, no team they’ve come across so far have matched and played better football than his charges.

“I see things differently, I just don’t look at the results. I look at the performance, and I don’t think any team that we’ve played so far this season were way better than us,” said Tinkler.

“I look at that, and that’s going to be the focus. Look at the errors that we made defensively, the psychological factor, we need to come to these games with a better mindset.”

WHAT ERIC TINKLER IS BANKING ON TO GET POSITIVE RESULTS AT CAPE TOWN CITY

Tinkler is positive they will turn things around and find the right balance, saying they need a little bit of patience until they start getting positive results.

“It has happened in the past, and we’ll recover. What I’ve seen so far in terms of our performance, we’ll get the results. It’s about a little bit of patience,” he added.
