Ntseki responds to Bafana coach Broos’ remarks on Chiefs players

Kaizer Chiefs coach Molefi Ntseki has responded to Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos’ remarks that none of the current Amakhosi players deserve to be in the national team.

Ntseki’s charges made it two wins in a row after beating 10-man Stellenbosch FC 2-0 in a DStv Premiership clash at Athlone Stadium on Wednesday night.

Pule Mmodi scored a stunner in the 52nd minute. In the latter stages, substitute Christian Saile netted Amakhosi’s second goal as Ntseki’s troops climbed to fifth place on the log standings after five games.

Mmodi, who was one of the four Chiefs players included in the Bafana preliminary squad by Broos for the friendly matches against Namibia and DR Congo next month, has now scored three goals in back-to-back matches.

However, before Chiefs’ victory, Broos dropped a bomb on Wednesday afternoon. This was after he announced his final Bafana squad to play Namibia on September 09 and DR Congo on September 12. Both matches will be staged at Orlando Stadium.

Broos claimed that no Chiefs player deserves to be in the national team. “Kaizer Chiefs has to improve. Last Saturday, I was at the Chiefs game [against AmaZulu FC]. I’m very sorry. But now, at the moment, there is no player who deserves to be in Bafana Bafana,” said the Bafana coach.

The outspoken tactician dropped all four Chiefs players that had initially made the preliminary squad. The players are Mmodi Given Msimango, Brandon Petersen and Sifiso Hlanti.

Ntseki defends Chiefs players after Broos’ snub

Speaking after the Stellenbosch FC game, Molefi Ntseki said: “It is a decision made by the national team coach. “We can’t question him because we don’t know what he’s looking for in a player.

“He [Broos] has never given us a template to say, ‘If you want to be in the national team, these are the requirements’. So if ever he doesn’t feel like we deserve to have players in the national team, it is just unfortunate.

“But we are very motivated. Because we have to work hard to show everybody and ourselves that we have got the quality within the team,” added Ntseki, who is a former Bafana coach.

The Soweto giants will now turn their focus to the MTN8 semi-finals. They are set to tackle Mamelodi Sundowns in the first-leg. The much-anticipated clash will be played at the FNB Stadium on Saturday afternoon (15:00).
