Arrows co-coach likens one of their strikers to Mabhuti Khenyeza

Golden Arrows coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi has likened one of their newly signed strikers to his co-coach Mabhuti Khenyeza. Arrows have started the 2023/24 DStv Premiership season with three wins in five matches. They are currently second on the log behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.

‘Abafana Bes’thende’ are also second in terms of the goal tally with nine goals. One player who has contributed to those goals is new striker Lungelo Nguse. The 24-year-old has scored two goals and has shown signs of hunger for more.

He burst into the PSL in 2019 and was described as the next Collins Mbesuma. But five seasons later, Nguse has had stints at Baroka FC, Bizana Pondo Chiefs, TS Sporting, and the University of Pretoria.

LUNGELO NGUSE THE NEXT MABHUTI KHENYEZA?

Vilakazi believes football fans are yet to see the best from Nguse. He also says the striker reminds him of his fellow coach Khenyeza. Khenyeza, now 41, is a former striker at clubs such as Kaizer Chiefs, Mamelodi Sundowns, Ajax Cape Town and Arrows.

“I am sure we will also help him because if you look at him and him and you look at Mabhuti you can see this is the same player as Mabhuti,” said Vilakazi.

“So we are trying by all means to work with him in terms of finding what we want going forward.”

NEWLY SIGNED STRIKER STILL ADAPTING AT GOLDEN ARROWS

“He is doing very well at the moment, I must be honest. But this is not the best of him, we are still to see the best of him. Obviously, he is still dealing with adaptation.

“It’s his second game now and he scored in the last game. He scored even now. So as much as he is still adapting he is doing well and productive for the team,” added Vilakazi.

Arrows will only be back in action on 16 September when they host Stellenbosch FC at  Mpumalanga Stadium in Hammarsdale.
