‘Chiefs have enough ammunition to beat Sundowns’: Mashamaite

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Tefu Mashamaite believes that Amakhosi has enough ammunition to beat Mamelodi Sundowns in the first leg of the MTN8 semi-finals.

The Molefi Ntseki-coached side will host Masandawana at FNB Stadium on Saturday, 2 September 2023. The kick-off will start at 15:00.

Mashamaite insists that the Soweto giants have ammunition to unnerve Rulani Mokwena and his boys, despite their current in-form in the SA top flight.

TEFU MASHAMAITE: ‘A CUP GAME IS NOT ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED IN THE PAST’

The ex-SuperSport United man is confident that the Glamour Boys can get fruitful results on the day. He emphasised that a cup game is not about “what happened in the past.”

“I think the best eight teams from the last season in the MTN8 tournament doesn’t get any easier,” Mashamaite told FARPost

“I feel like if Chiefs are hungry enough and they want to reclaim their glory days of being the number one team in terms of trophy collection they have to go through obstacles like Sundowns.

“It’s just about the drive on the day. You know, cup competitions are not about what happened in the past.”

Mashamaite continued: “The game will be based more on how one applies themselves. I feel on the day if they [Kaizer Chiefs] apply themselves well, they can overcome Sundowns, as they have got enough ammunition.”

Chiefs advanced to the tournament’s semi-finals after they came back from a goal down to beat Cape Town City 2-1 in the quarterfinals. The game took place at Athlone Stadium a fortnight ago.

Meanwhile, Bafana Ba Style got the better of Moroka Swallows in the quarter-finals with a 1-0 scoreline to book a spot in the semis.

Interestingly, the Brazilians remain the only team yet to lose a game across all competitions so far.
