Maritzburg United suffer massive blow as experienced duo leaves

Maritzburg United have suffered yet another massive blow as the experienced duo has departed the club following the start of the season.

Maritzburg recently began their run in the Motsepe Foundation Championship as they suffered relegation from the top flight last season.

They started on the front foot, coming out victorious with a 1-0 scoreline over their KZN opponents Milford FC last week.

The Pietermaritzburg-based outfit failed to keep their DStv Premiership status, falling short in the PSL Promotion Play-Offs. Subsequently, several players chose to leave, seeking top-flight opportunities elsewhere.

EXPERIENCED DUO LEAVES MARITZBURG UNITED

FARPost can confirm that centre-back Bonginkosi Makume and right-back Lungelo Bhengu have left Maritzburg. The club has handed them their clearances after they asked to be released from their current contracts.

It is understood that Maritzburg lacked the financial muscle to meet the players’ demands having also lost the sponsor Msunduzi Municipality.

Some left Maritzburg and remained in KZN with Wayde Jooste and Rowan Human switching to AmaZulu FC while Brandon Theron and Bradley Cross joined Golden Arrows. Meanwhile, Thabo Moloisane and Genino Palace signed with Stellenbosch FC.

Further, Renaldo Learner is now plying his trade at Sekhukhune United while King Ndlovu returned to Marumo Gallants. The French striker Amadou Soukouna turned his back on SA, signing for the Thailand club Bangkok United.

And most recently Karim Kimvuidi was snatched by Orlando Pirates despite having been linked with an MLS move. Lastly, Kwame Peprah and Tebogo Tlolane completed their loan periods and returned to the Buccaneers.
