Samir Nurkovic in advanced talks with DStv Premiership side
Former Kaizer Chiefs marksman Samir Nurkovic is on the verge of joining a DStv Premiership side, with talks at an advanced stage.
Nurkovic is embroiled in a dispute with Royal AM in which the KwaZulu Natal outfit is meant to pay him.
After being dismissed by Royal AM in October 2022, just two months into his two-year contract, the Serbian striker reported the club to FIFA.
AM argued that they had the right to terminate his contract because he had been on sick leave for long.
However, FIFA ruled in his favour, ordering the club to pay Nurkovic in the region of R12 million, which includes his salary for the entire contract, his representatives’ fees, and interest on the delayed payment.
While he awaits the Royal AM settlement, Nurkovic wants to return to playing football.
SAMIR NURKOVIC IN ADVANCED TALKS WITH TS GALAXY
He has been linked with a number of clubs since then, including Cape Town City and Moroccan giants Raja Casablanca, but it appears that TS Galaxy are the frontrunners to sign him.
FARPost can reveal that the 31-year-old has been training with TS Galaxy for the past two days.
On Friday, he met with the club’s chairman, Tim Sukazi, to discuss his contract. The club has shown interest in the big Serb before. After he parted ways with Royal AM, the club held talks with him, but the move collapsed.
It, however, looks like he could end up playing for them this time around. Nurkovic was a popular figure at Amakhosi, whose fans gave him the nickname ‘Kokota Piano’.
He finished his first season at Amakhosi as the club’s top scorer with 14 goals. However, he struggled to replicate that form in his last two seasons at the Soweto giants. Nurkovic scored 21 goals and provided 10 assists in 78 appearances for Chiefs.
He will be hoping to rediscover that form should he don the TS Galaxy jersey.
