Sekhukhune United coach to follow Middendorp to Tanzania?

A Sekhukhune United coach is set to join Ernst Middendorp’s technical team at Tanzanian club, Singida Fountain Gate, FARPost has learnt.

Middendorp was confirmed as the new coach at the club this week. The move comes only two weeks after his departure from German club SV Meppen.

This publication has now established that Sekhukhune United’s head of development, Thabo Senong, is also joining Middendorp.

Senong, who has previously worked as an assistant coach at the club, was appointed head of development last year. This follows the arrival of head coach Brandon Truter. Insiders at Sekhukhune have revealed that Senong is definitely set for an exit.

COACH THABO SENONG TO LEAVE SEKHUKHUNE UNITED AND FOLLOW ERNST MIDDENDORP?

The 42-year-old has previously worked as head coach of the Lesotho national team. He has also coached the SA U/20 team at the 2017 and 2019 FIFA U/20 World Cups.

Middendorp is believed to be assembling his own technical team after taking over from Dutchman Hans van Pluijm. He has previously worked with Maahier Davids at the Ethiopian side Saint George FC.

WHO ARE SINGIDA FOUNTAIN GATE?

Fountain Gate are currently ninth in the Tanzanian Premier League with two round of matches played.

According to www.betsapi.com, Singida Fountain Gate were founded in 2010 as a team of DTB Bank employees known as Diamond Trust Bank FC.

In 2022, the Bank discontinued their ownership of the club after they had gained promotion to the Premier League. This also led to stakeholders in the Singida Region purchasing the team.

After the 2022/23 season, Singida Big Stars merged with Fountain Gate Academy to form a new name of Singida Fountain Gate FC.

They finished fourth in their first season in the Premier League and subsequently qualified for the CAF Confederation Cup.
