Xulu signed a two-year contract with the Gavin Hunt-coached side and has already established himself as the team’s defence mainstay.

“It came at the right time for me to come back to SuperSport United. If you asked me my thoughts months ago about my career, I would have told you otherwise about coming back home.

“I think it came at the right time for me. The project that they had for me is something that makes sense for me at this age and time. That’s why I decided to come back home,” Xulu said.

The ex-Kaizer Chiefs defender has so far featured in five matches for the ambitious Pretoria-based side.

Xulu, the 31-year-old steady defence stalwart, boasts of 25 caps for the South African senior national football team. He was very instrumental in helping the team qualify for the next AFCON to be held in Ivory Coast.

Xulu is also part of the Bafana squad that will play two friendly matches against Namibia and the DR Congo.

Hugo Broos’ men will host Namibia on 9 September and the DR Congo on 12 September. The friendly matches are part of the Bafana’s preparations for the 2023 AFCON to be played in Ivory Coast.

They will also hope to sharpen the team for the 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifiers, which start in November.
