Latest on Adebayor to AmaZulu FC

DStv Premiership outfit AmaZulu FC have given the latest update on Niger international Victorien Adebayor.

Visa issues delayed the arrival of the newly signed AmaZulu striker. However, a stumbling block remains.

AmaZulu president Sandile Zungu revealed that Adebayor would have arrived on the 8th of September, but with the airspace in Niger closed, his arrival has been postponed.

“He’s still on the way. AmaZulu FC expected him to land on the 8th. They’ve cancelled that flight,” Zungu explained to FARPost.

“We’ll have to put him on the next flight. He’s very committed to coming. We’re very committed to getting him. The SA authorities issued the visa, which he has in his hands. I’ve seen it.”

The Niger national team will play their home Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON] qualifier against Uganda in Morocco on Thursday.

WHAT IS THE LATEST ON ADEBAYOR?

A highly-rated winger, Adebayor is part of the Niger squad that will take on the Cranes.

A Niger journalist told FARPost that the football federation in the country was still trying to make plans for the team to fly out to Marrakech, Morocco.

“The closed borders make the situation tricky. The federation is trying to find a plan for players to reach Morocco,” said the journalist.

The talented winger could arrive in the next few days. AmaZulu expects the former Inter Allies and Legon Cities FC striker to be a major asset.

Adebayor started his professional career with AS Douanes in Niger in 2016. He moved to Ghana two years later to join Inter Allies, where he scored 12 goals in 28 appearances.

In 2019, he moved to Legon Cities, where he scored 10 goals in 26 appearances.
His next port of call was Moroccan side RS Berkane in 2022.

He is a versatile forward who can play as a striker or winger. His speed, ball-handling skills, and scoring ability make Adebayor exceptional. He will be eager to contribute goals and assists at AmaZulu FC and help the team finish in the top four.

AmaZulu are in 14th place in the DStv Premiership after picking six points from the first five games.

They won one, drew three and lost one. Capped 54 times for Niger, he has scored 19 goals for his national team.
