Kaitano Tembo blames Richards Bay FC struggles on ‘inexperienced squad’

Richards Bay FC head coach Kaitano Tembo has blamed the club’s struggle for form in the 2023/24 DStv Premiership season on ‘inexperienced squad’.

The KZN-based side remains one of the clubs yet to claim a victory in the new Premiership campaign.

Richards Bay failed to register a win after drawing two matches and losing three times in their five opening league games.

The Natal Rich Boys are currently positioned 15th on the table after accumulating only two points.

Another team that’s yet to taste a victory in the DStv Premiership is the newly promoted Cape Town Spurs who lost all their first five league games.

Meanwhile, Tembo who was appointed as head coach of Richards Bay at the start of the season has pinpointed lack of experience as reasons for his club’s struggles for form.

The former SuperSport United mentor took over from Vasili Manousakis who was fired at the end of last season.

TEMBO PINPOINTS LACK OF EXPERIENCE FOR RICHARDS BAY’S POOR RUN

“I was brought in very late [in the pre-season], players were coming out of a very long season,” Tembo said on MSW.

“So players were not playing the way I want them to play. I wanted them to play more effectively but I see lot of improvement and we’ll start picking up points.

“With where we are, we need players to be calmer and composed. We should not think of what happened in the past.

“I can see the drive and attitude towards training and matches. At the moment we are pulling in the same direction, unfortunately we have to use what we have.

“We need to work with players we have because we don’t have the facilities we need. We need someone who is experienced to give us the goals we need.

“But it’s not easy because there are no resources get those kind of players.” added the Zimbabwean-born coach.
