Morena Ramoreboli among nominees for top honour
South African coach Morena Ramoreboli, head coach of Botswana’s Jwaneng Galaxy, has been nominated for a top award.
Ramoreboli guided Galaxy to the Botswana league title last season, and his exploits have not gone unnoticed as he is in contention to add an individual honour.
While preparing for the CAF Champions League showdown against Orlando Pirates next weekend, he has been nominated for the Coach of the Year award.
This is under the inaugural Botswana Football Association [BFA] Awards, where he looks poised to become the first winner of the accolade.
The ceremony is set to take place on October 7 at the Gaborone International Convention Centre [GCC].
TOP HONOUR BECKONING MORENA RAMOREBOLI
CAF president Dr Patrice Motsepe is expected to grace the highly anticipated event. He has been invited as the Guest of Honour.
The list of nominees was released on Thursday at the official launch of the upcoming event.
The South African tactician will battle it out against the likes of former Bay United winger Pontsho Moloi. Moloi is in charge of Gaborone United. Seemo Mpatane of Eleven Angels and Masitaoka’s Mandla Mpofu are also in the running for the gong.
Of the nominated coaches, only Ramoreboli and Moloi managed to win silverware last season, giving them a slight edge in the race.
However, the Bafana Bafana coach at the 2023 COSAFA Cup looks likely to win the award, considering his achievements with the mining outfit.
He is in line for double delight as Galaxy are nominated for the BFA Men’s Team of the Year award. Initiated by the BFA, the awards are expected to be one of the most high-profile events on Botswana’s sports calendar.
Meanwhile, the Botswana Football League 2023/24 season has been postponed to October. The league was scheduled to start late in September. However, the league is reportedly finalising a new title sponsor.
