Percy Tau reveals reason behind new haircut
Bafana Bafana and Al Ahly star Percy Tau has revealed the reason behind his new haircut.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns and Brighton & Hove Albion forward has been known for his different hairstyles over the years. He has had dreadlocks and short hair and his famous afro.
Tau’s latest haircut has caused some debate among fans, with some believing that he is taking away his “powers” by shaving his head. However, Tau dismissed these claims, saying that his powers come from God and not his hair.
WHY PERCY TAU HAS A NEW HAIRCUT
“I always try and do something different,” Tau told Bafana media officer Romy Titus. “I did in the previous season, where I shaved my hair. But people have this belief that I’m taking away the powers.
“The powers come from God. Nothing is being taken away. It’s a new look for a new season. I’m reaching 30, so I need to change the look a little bit and be a grootman.”
Interestingly, earlier on Thursday at the 10bet media breakfast, Tau said Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena told him to cut his hair.
The two are known to be close, having previously worked together at the Sundowns development side.
“It’s a conversation we’ve been having [with Rulani Mokwena],” said Tau.
The man nicknamed ‘Lion of Judah’ is currently in pre-season with Egyptian giants Al Ahly. He is part of the Bafana squad hosting Namibia on 9 September at 15:00 at Orlando Stadium in an international friendly. They will also play DR Congo at the same venue on Tuesday.
HOPING TO INSPIRE BAFANA BAFANA
Last season, after overcoming his injury woes, he scored 10 goals and provided seven assists in 40 appearances for the reigning African champions.
The 29-year-old is a regular for the South African national team and has won 39 caps for Bafana Bafana. He is Bafana’s current leading top scorer with 14 goals.
Tau is hoping to inspire South Africa to success at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. The tournament will be held in Ivory Coast in January of next year.
Tau is confident that South Africa can do well at the tournament, saying that the team has a good mix of experience and youth.
