How Grant Margeman plans to be a regular in Bafana Bafana set-up

SuperSport United midfielder Grant Margeman has revealed how he plans to be a regular player in the Bafana Bafana set-up.

Margeman is expected to play in the upcoming friendly matches as coach Hugo Broos said he will give opportunities to new players who made it to the national team.

Bafana will host Namibia and DR Congo on 9 and 12 September, respectively. Both matches will be played at Orlando Stadium.

The midfield maestro has previously represented the national team in junior ranks: the Under-20 and the Under-23.

In the past months, the 25-year-old has been named in the preliminary squads, however always missed out in the final squad.

GRANT MARGEMAN EYEING TO CONSTANTLY REPRESENTING BAFANA BAFANA

According to Margeman, he aims to impress coach Hugo Broos so he can always remain part of the squad.

There is a lot to play for in the national team. Firstly, it’s the FIFA World Cup qualifiers, the finals will be co-hosted in 2026 by USA, Canada and Mexico. To add, there are AFCON finals in Ivory Coast in January 2024.

“Firstly, it’s an honour for me to be here; I’ve been working hard with my club SuperSport. For me, it was just to be patient and to always make sure that I perform well,” said Margeman.

“It’s just another step for me, it’s about how can I take my game to the next level. I have to do well in the next two games and make sure I consistently stay part of the bunch.

“Now is to make sure I pay the coach [with great performances].”

GRANT MARGEMAN AWARE OF STIFF COMPETITION AT BAFANA BAFANA

Despite having plans to always represent the national team, the former Mamelodi Sundowns player is aware of stiff competition for a place in the midfield.

He will be competing with the likes of Njabulo Blom, Teboho Mokoena and Sphephelo Sithole.

“If you look at the midfielders, we have a player like [Njabulo] Blom, who is also doing well in the MLS, but he’s not here with us.

“It’s a lot of competition; for me, it’s always to make sure that I don’t take my foot off the pedal. I have to keep on doing well, keep on pushing myself so I’m part of the team,” he added.
