Kaizer Chiefs are in the final stages of finalising one more exit before the transfer window closes later this month.
The imminent departure will be the latest in a series of high-profile exits from Chiefs. In recent months, the club has parted ways with Caleb Bimenyimana, Khama Billiat, Kgaogelo Sekgota, Thabani Dube, Erick Mathoho, Phathushedzo Nange, Cole Alexander and Siyabonga Ngezana.
This is a major shakeup for the Soweto giants, who have been one of the most successful clubs in South African football history.
However, the club has not won the PSL title since 2015, and they are eager to recapture the glory days.
Management and the coaching team, led by Molefi Ntseki, did a squad audit that necessitated the seven exits.
“The good thing about me being part of Chiefs for the past two years was we did a squad audit and came out with a plan on having a balanced squad,” Ntseki told journalists recently.
It saw a number of new signings joining the club in time for the 2023/24 season.
ONE MORE EXIT EXPECTED AT KAIZER CHIEFS
Edson Castillo, Jasond González, Given Msimango, Thatayaone Ditlhokwe, Mduduzi Mdantsane, Pule Mmodi, Tebogo Potsane and Ranga Chivaviro all joined the club.
FARPost can reveal that another exit is imminent. The club is set to part ways with midfielder Kamohelo Mahlatsi.
Mahlatsi, who joined Chiefs from Swallows FC in June 2022, has made seven appearances for the club in all competitions during his 15 months at the club.
He featured five times in the DStv Premiership, with the two other appearances coming from the Nedbank Cup and MTN8. The 25-year-old is yet to feature in an official match this season. It is increasingly looking unlikely that he will get opportunities to play.
The versatile midfielder has several players ahead of him in the various positions he plays. The club and player are currently in advanced talks to finalise his permanent exit. All things being equal, it could happen within the next two weeks.
Mahlatsi, who has turned out for SuperSport United, Swallows and AmaTuks, has made peace with leaving the club with two years left on his contract.
BIG IMPACT ELSEWHERE
The former youth international is a talented midfielder with a lot of potential. He will be hoping to make a big impact elsewhere.
Mahlatsi began his professional football career with SuperSport United in 2018. He had loan stints at Ubuntu Cape Town and University of Pretoria. In 2019, he joined Swallows FC, where he was a key player, only missing nine league games in two seasons.
The exodus at Chiefs is a chance for a new generation of players to step up. Management will be hoping that the changes they are making will be enough to turn things around.
