What Percy Tau wants Lyle Foster to prove in the EPL
Bafana Bafana talisman Percy Tau believes Lyle Foster can live up to his billing at Burnley FC and prove one point about South African footballers.
Lyle Foster has given a good account of himself since his debut in the highly-rated English Premier League.
Foster has scored twice for Burnley FC, who remain at the bottom of the pile in the English Premier League.
The 23-year-old Orlando Pirates product scored in Burnley’s 3-1 defeat to Aston Villa and their 5-2 loss to Tottenham Hotspur.
WHAT PERCY TAU WANTS LYLE FOSTER TO PROVE
He is the only South African playing in the top European league. And Percy Tau has urged Foster to use the EPL as a platform to prove that South Africa still has the quality players.
The Bafana talisman Percy Tau, himself, had a rather forgettable stint in England while in the books of Brighton & Hove Albion.
That was before he was lured to Al Ahly by Pitso Mosimane then at the helm of the Egyptian giants.
Having watched how Foster has adjusted to working under coach Vincent Kompany, Tau sees brighter days ahead of his Bafana teammate.
“Lyle [Foster] is my boy. I spent three hours with him in Belgium talking, and sharing what I have been learning with him. I’m proud to see him do well. I feel like he deserves it.
“He’s in that space and it’s a good platform to show them in Europe that we still have quality to play in the EPL.
“He just has to keep going and to keep learning. It shows he has Kompany, and I hope he will have a good relationship with him,” Tau said.
TAU, FOSTER GEARED FOR BAFANA BAFANA ASSIGNMENTS
Lyle Foster and Percy Tau were drafted into the Bafana Bafana squad to face Namibia and the DR Congo in friendly matches.
They will battle for a first-team place with Mihlali Mayambela, Kobamelo Kodisang and Zakhele Lepasa.
Lebo Mothiba of Strasbourg and the exciting Monnapule Saleng complete the list of strikers that are in the final squad.
Bafana Bafana will host Namibia on 9 September 2023 and DR Congo on the 12th of September.
Both matches are part of Hugo Broos’ preparations for the AFCON finals to be staged in Côte d’Ivoire next year.
Broos will also hope to pick his men for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, which start in November.
