Bafana, Namibia play out goalless stalemate
Bafana Bafana were held to a 0-0 draw by neighbours Namibia in an international friendly match at Orlando Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The friendly international is part of the preparations for the 2023 AFCON tournament due to be held in Ivory Coast in January next year.
To add to that, the friendly clash also forms part of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in November 2023.
The two nations were looking happy to knock the ball around in the opening stages of the showdown.
But, as the first period wore on, it was the home side attacking and the Namibia scrambling to get back.
BAFANA BAFANA IN CONTROL
Bafana continued to look to be the brighter team, as the visitors gave the ball away so cheaply sometimes.
Namibia needed a bit of magic to shake things up and take command of the showdown, unfortunately, they couldn’t create much when they had a chance to do so.
Broos’ charges, on the other hand, kept on frightening the life out of the Namibian side till the half-time break.
The showdown went into the interval with a 0-0 scoreline.
In the second stanza, the home side continued where they left off in the first half, enjoying much of the ball possession.
Whereas, Namibia had offered little threat in front of the hosts’ goals.
South Africa never stopped bossing possession and getting into dangerous areas – hoping to break the deadlock.
NOTHING TO SEPARATE BOTH TEAMS
As the clock ticked towards the end of the match, it was end-to-end stuff. Both teams were knocking at each other’s goals.
In the end, South Africa and Namibia were left to rue missed chances in a goalless draw.
Broos’ troops will face DR Congo on Tuesday, 12 September at 17h00. The game will also take place at Orlando Stadium.
