Kaizer Chiefs star earns AFCON qualification

Kaizer Chiefs star Edmilson Dove has earned AFCON qualification with his national Mozambique in Ivory Coast in January 2024.

The Black Mambas played out to an entertaining five-goal thriller against Benin on Saturday at Estadio do Zimpeto.

They won the match 3-2 at death as they scored in the stoppage time. Therefore, they finished the qualifiers second in Group L with 10 points. They are three points behind log leaders Senegal.

Senegal will be in action on Saturday late as they take on Rwanda in their last group match.

Dove was an unused substitute as he sat out the entire match watching from the bench.

The visitors drew first blood as they opened the scoring 20 minutes into the match through Steve Moune.

The home side quickly responded as they netted two goals in a space of four minutes. They found the back of the net in the 27th and 31st minute through Witi and Guima respectively.

When the match looked headed for a draw, Clesio Bauque restored the lead in the 95th minute.

Chiquinho Conde’s side will be making a return to the continental finals for the first time in 13 years as they last played in 2010 when the competition was held in Angola.

EDMILSON DOVE’S IMPACT WITH MOZAMBIQUE

The talented defender played a big part in his national team as they booked a ticket for Ivory Coast in January 2024.

The 29-year-old played the last four qualifier matches. The versatile defender didn’t make it in the team in the first two matches because of injury setbacks and lack of fitness.
