Broos weighs in on poor supporters’ turnout
Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has weighed in on poor supporters’ turnout following their 0-0 draw with Namibia in an international friendly on Saturday afternoon.
The friendly match between the two nations took place at Orlando Stadium in Soweto.
The game was part of the preparations for the 2023 AFCON tournament and the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in November 2023.
According to reports, 8,366 tickets were sold for the Bafana Bafana and Namibia international friendly clash.
As we are well aware, there are several pressing issues in this country as far as football is concerned, and lack of attendance of matches is one of the issues that top the list.
It is sad that gone are the days when local matches were played in front of full houses.
HUGO BROOS ON POOR SUPPORTER TURNOUT
When coach Broos was asked about the poor supporters turn out in a post-match interview, the Belgian mentor said: “Look, I want to play every game in a full Stadium.
“Honestly, I expected that there would be more supporters today because we did good results [in previous matches].
“Maybe we have to play more good games before the public is coming back to the stadium.”
Broos went on to say that they will take it upon themselves to try to play good games. He believes playing good matches will attract supporters to the stadiums.
“It will depend on us if we are not playing good games and winning games. I think that difficult for supporters to come to the stadium,” he added.
“But it’s okay. There was quite a number of supporters today. Honestly, I thought there should be more supporters today.”
Bafana will face DR Congo on Tuesday, 12 September at 17h00. The game will also take place at Orlando Stadium.
