Hugo Broos hints at changes to expect in Bafana lineup for DRC clash

Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has hinted at changes to expect from his side when they meet DR Congo in their second international friendly match.

South Africa will host the Leopards, who recently secured a ticket to AFCON in Ivory Coast, on Tuesday, 11 September at Orlando Stadium.

Broos’ men played a 0-0 draw with Namibia in their first FIFA Break friendly match on Saturday at the same venue. However, Bafana gaffer said he was “happy” with what he saw on the day.

He stated the match was about giving chances to the new faces in his squad and players who don’t feature regularly rather than the result.

The Belgian coach said players who did not get a run against the Brave Warriors will be on the field on Tuesday.

“DR Congo is another style, a totally other style. Again we didn’t look at it because it’s a friendly game,” said Broos.

“If it’s a qualifier, you look more at which style they play, which is the better plays to play against them. We didn’t do that now but for sure on Tuesday, those who were not on the pitch today [Saturday against Namibia], they will be here on the pitch, that’s for sure.

“And some players who only played halftime [one half] today but we will see but it will be not totally other team but it will be another team.”

Some of the unfamiliar faces in the Bafana shirt on the day included the likes of Kobamelo Kodisang, Grant Margeman, Thabiso Monyane and Mlungisi Mbunjana. Meanwhile, Lebo Mothiba played for the first time under Broos while Pule Mmodi, who’s not a regular in the national team, also got a chance.

Percy Tau, Zakhele Lepasa, Mothobi Mvala, Mihlali Mayambela and Ronwen Williams didn’t play and are likely to start against DRC.
