Bafana see off DR Congo in a friendly match

Bafana Bafana beat DR Congo 1-0 in an international friendly match at Orlando Stadium in Soweto on Tuesday evening.

The encounter is part of the preparations for the 2023 AFCON tournament due to be held in Ivory Coast in January next year.

Furthermore, the friendly game also forms part of the preparations for 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in November 2023.

South Africa did a good job in frustrating the visitors in the first stage of the half.

But DR Congo were not unfazed, as they did sit back and watch the hosts taking command of the showpiece.

As the first stanza progressed, the complexion of the showdown changed, with the two teams testing each other’s goals.

In the 25th minute of the contest, Bafana broke the deadlock through Burnley FC star forward Lyle Foster.

However, Hugo Broos’ charges did not slow down following their first goal, as they upped the tempo, with the hope of adding to the scoreline.

The match calmed down a bit as the first half drew on, with DR Congo finding it difficult to settle into a rhythm and prolonged ball possession from South Africa.

Bafana’s relentless way of doing things in the field denied the visitors time and space on the ball.

BAFANA LEADING AT HALF-TIME BREAK

The match went into the half-time break with a 1-0 scoreline in favour of Broos’ boys.

Back out for the second stanza, the showdown got off to a cagey start, with both sides struggling to find any real momentum.

As the second half wore on, it was action-packed, unfortunately, chances were few and far between from both nations.

Nevertheless, the home side started enjoying their finest spell of the half, searching for another goal.

DR Congo had now been pushed back and couldn’t create an opportunity of note.

BAFANA WALK AWAY VICTORIOUS

As a result, South Africa claimed a win against a very good side following their 0-0 draw with Namibia this past weekend.

According to reports, a total number of 9140 spectators attended this friendly international match.
