Former Arrows captain on his DStv Premiership exit
Ex-Golden Arrows captain Matome Mathiane has opened up on finding himself playing in the Motsepe Foundation Championship after many seasons in the DStv Premiership. Mathiane was one of the marquee signings for Baroka FC at the beginning of the season. He joined after spending a season at Chippa United.
His previous spell in the PSL top flight includes nine seasons at Golden Arrows, where he was also captain of the side. He was part of the Abafana Bes’thende side that got relegated in 2014 but immediately returned the following season.

He told FARPost that he wants to impart the experience and help Baroka return to the Premiership.
“I came to Baroka FC to help the team gain promotion to the DStv Premiership. I’ve done it before at Golden Arrows,” he said.
“So I came here to work hard for the team and we have lots of youngsters at the team that really need our support and experience.”

He desires to return to the DStv Premiership with the Limpopo-based side.
“I still have a lot to offer at DStv premiership. I left Chippa United and I gave it out to the team,” he said.
Mathiane played in 22 matches for the Chilli Boys with one goal and one man of the match against Orlando Pirates.
“So I did very well for the team. With the youngsters we have at Baroka we can achieve anything this season. We just need to work hard as a team and stay united.”
He also adds that he has no hard feelings after being released at Chippa despite his performances. “It’s football, my brother. Players come and go just like Coaches.”
