Kaizer Chiefs coach Ntseki responds to Mthethwa transfer rumours

Kaizer Chiefs coach Molefi Ntseki has responded to rumours that the club is interested in signing Stellenbosch FC midfielder Sibongiseni Mthethwa.

The gritty midfielder has been linked with Chiefs in recent weeks, with the transfer window still open until September 22, 2023.

The man nicknamed ‘Ox’ has been in sensational form for the Winelands outfit.

“I think the most important thing is that whenever you see a good player elsewhere, people will always associate that player with Kaizer Chiefs,” Ntseki told journalists in Naturena.

“In our player audit, we have put in so many players even though we have never gone public about those players.

“It’s normal for a team like Kaizer Chiefs to look for quality players to strengthen the team. The name of [Sibongiseni] Mthethwa is doing the rounds about him coming to Chiefs. And there have been other players spoken about coming to Chiefs.”

Ntseki admitted the Bafana Bafana international was a “good quality player”, adding they “would love to have him anytime”.

“The most important thing is that he’s a good quality player. We would love to have him anytime, whenever he’s available, whenever we have the resources to bring him in. But he’s a good player.”

On whether Chiefs would still sign any players, he said they were not necessarily closing the book.

“I think the most important thing, like I keep saying, is you don’t close the book. You don’t close the window. If ever you have to get a quality player coming to the club,” added Ntseki.

“We’re, and we’ll still be, looking for quality players coming into the club and to strengthen the team.”

His remarks suggest Amakhosi would still be open to adding new faces before the window closes.

“You can’t turn a blind eye to a good player, whether it’s a striker, whether it’s a defender, whether it’s a midfielder, whether it’s a goalkeeper. Whenever that player is available and is affordable, we’ll definitely look into that player.

“Yes, we still have a few days left before the window closes. When it comes to player registration, when we get an opportunity to get any of those quality players, we’ll definitely go for them,” added the Amakhosi coach.

On Saturday, Chiefs play Royal AM in their next DStv Premiership fixtures at the FNB Stadium. Kick-off is 17h30.
