Not a one-man show: Mammila gives Vilakazi full ‘authority’
Chippa United coach Morgan Mammila has given the club’s new technical director, Vusi Vilakazi, full authority to contribute to the team, insisting he is not a one-man show.
Vilakazi recently joined the Chilli Boys to serve as the technical director. At his previous club, Golden Arrows, he served as co-coach with Mabhuti Khenyeza.
Mammila said he gives Vilakazi the freedom to train the team and give instructions during matches.
MORGAN MAMMILA NOT LIMITING VUSI VILAKAZI
SABC Sport quoted Mammila as saying he was “giving him authority to give me everything that he has when it comes to football”.
He added: “I’m not limiting him. And I’m not starting this thing now. I’m even allowing him to be in charge of training the team.”
The former Baroka and Chippa CEO, Mammila, believes that teams are successful when people are giving it their all, and he wants to create an environment where his staff feel valued and can contribute to the team.
“All other teams you see that are successful, it’s because people are giving it their all,” he said. “And I want to make all my staff, when they wake up, look forward to coming to add value to this team.”
Mammila’s comments suggest he is a team player willing to delegate responsibility to others. This is a positive sign for Chippa, as it indicates that Mammila is open to new ideas and ready to build a strong team.
Together, they will plot against Richards Bay, whom they play on Tuesday, 19 September 2023, at the King Goodwill Zwelithini Stadium.
The Eastern Cape side is in 12th position with six points from six games. They have won one game and drew twice while losing thrice.
They will be looking to beat the Natal Rich Boyz to climb up the DStv Premiership table and avoid scrambling for points in the season’s second round.
