Chippa United’s Vusumuzi Vilakazi discusses new role as Technical Director
Newly appointed Chippa United Technical Director Vusumuzi Vilakazi has opened up on his new role that will see him working closely with coach Morgan Mammila. Vilakazi, who parted ways with Golden Arrows recently, began his tenure at the Chilli Boys this week.
There were pictures posted by the club of Vilakazi taking charge of a training session at Chippa. This has also raised questions about his exact role. But coach Mammila came out during the week and clarified that he had given the 40-year-old the responsibility of overseeing training sessions.

During an interview with SABC Radio, Vilakazi also spoke about what his new role entails at the PSL club.
“People don’t need to misunderstand the fact that I am TD. As the coach was saying just now, I know the duties of a TD. But I am not limited here,” said Vusumuzi Vilakazi.
“The coach has given me freedom to work with the team because all I do is for the betterment of the club. It’s not about me. It’s not about the coach, it’s about the badge that we are wearing. So I will fit in where it’s necessary for me to fit in.
“Obviously, we will have a meeting with the junior coach, development coaches, and stuff like that. But above everything else, I am happy for the fact that Morgan has given me the freedom of helping in terms of making sure that we take this team to another level,” he said.
WHAT IS EXPECTED FROM ‘KANU’ ALONGSIDE MORGAN MAMMILA?
“The expectations are that I need to deliver, I need to deliver. Obviously, I am not a messiah, yes. But with the supporting staff that is there at Chippa and the coaching staff as well. We are heading in the right direction in terms of making sure that whatever is expected of me we deliver, as a technical staff as well as the supporting staff.
“I am sure with the focus now, as the coach was saying, that we need to make sure that we align a few things in the first team. To make sure that our development structures are also run smoothly. So we have an assignment now, specifically with the first team,” he said.
The Chilli Boys are away to Richards Bay on Tuesday, 19 September. Vilakazi is expected to sit on the bench alongside Morgan Mammila.
