Former Kaizer Chiefs striker’s career hit by further blow after release

The career of former Kaizer Chiefs striker Caleb Bimenyimana has been hit by a further blow after he was released by the club last month.

Bimenyimana joined the Libyan giants Al Ahli Benghazi on a free transfer after parting ways with Kaizer Chiefs at the start of the 2023/24 DStv Premiership season.

He spent one season with the Molefi Ntseki-coached club after joining the club at the beginning of last season.

Bimenyimana scored eight goals and contributed one assist in 21 matches in all competitions for Chiefs.

Interestingly, Bimenyimana was shown the exit door by Chiefs despite finishing last season as the club’s top goal scorer.

The 25-year-old forward came close to joining Wydad Casablanca of Morroco before joining Benghazi but the deal fell through.

CALEB BIMENYIMANA SUSTAIN A MAJOR INJURY SETBACK

Bimenyimana sustained a major injury setback while on national duty with Burundi as they lost 3-0 to Cameroon in the AFCON Qualifiers on Tuesday.

Burundi failed to qualify for the AFCON showpiece set to be pencilled at Ivory Coast in January 2024.

Although the extent of Bimenyimana’s injury is unknown, indications are that he may take a little longer to make a debut for his new club.

In a picture that was made available to this publication, Bimenyimana is seen in a wheelchair. The Burundi international had his right foot in a moon boot.

“You can’t control injuries but you can control how hard you work to come back,” Bimenyimana said on Instagram.

“Unfortunately, injuries are part of the game and you have to adapt, keep faith, trust and never give up. It hasn’t always been easy, there’s a lot of hard moments.”

The lanky forward will be hoping to quickly return from injury to begin life with his new club.
