How Maart and Castillo overcome communication difficulty on the field

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Yusuf Maart has explained why verbal communication difficulty isn’t an obstacle in his partnership with Edson Castillo in the midfield.

The Venezuelan maestro seems to have earned the Amakhosi faithful’s trust having only played seven games in all competitions. The 29-year-old has also scored three goals for the Soweto giants in the process.

He has, at some point, sparked controversy on whether he plays as a number six or eight to which his coach Molefi Ntseki replied, “He’s a 6, an 8, and a 10.”

The former Bafana Bafana coach meant Castillo is complete enough to be utilised anywhere in the midfield.

However, the one fascinating part is he can’t speak English. And Maart, who’s his close associate, says they read each other’s movements in order to have an understanding.

YUSUF MAART ON HIS UNDERSTANDING WITH EDSON CASTILLO

“Yeah it is difficult [to communicate with him] but he understands football, so you will see the movement out of everything,” he told journalists.

“Thanks because he’s a great player and to play with him is something great. He’s not making it easy for use at training, all the midfielders. Everyone is putting in the effort and everyone is working hard.”

Maart says the arrival of the Venezuelan made the competition even more stiffer among the midfielders.

“Any midfielder that comes to any team, you will always uplift, you will always put the effort in,” he added.

“Basically all the midfielders during the season, everyone is putting in the effort.”

With the FIFA international break complete, Amakhosi are back in action this upcoming weekend. They will be aiming to extend their winning streak to three games in the league.

They host Royal AM in the DStv Premiership match on Saturday, 16 September at FNB Stadium at 5:30.
