Kaizer Chiefs drop points against Royal AM

Kaizer Chiefs were held to a frustrating goalless draw by Royal AM in a DStv Premiership clash on Saturday afternoon.

Chiefs welcomed Royal AM at FNB Stadium looking to make it three back-to-back victories in the league.

The Soweto giants beat AmaZulu FC 3-0 on the 26th of August before brushing aside Stellenbosch with a 2-0 win at Athlone Stadium on the 30th of August.

Chiefs had a golden opportunity to open the scoring in the eighth minute when Ashley Du Preez played an inviting ball to Jasond Gonzalez who failed to convert from close range.

Amakhosi kept piling pressure on AM with Pule Mmodi finding Du Preez with a through ball but the former Stellies talisman fired his shot off target.

CHIEFS MISSSED COUNTLESS GOAL SCORING OPPORTUNITIES

Du Preez once again had a chance to give Chiefs a lead in the 29th minute but he couldn’t find the back of the net with AM goalkeeper Xolani Ngcobo off his line.

The Chiefs’ midfield maestro Edson Gastillo came close to finding his second goal in the league in the 32nd minute but he was denied but the crossbar.

Referee Olani Kwinda blew the half-time whistle with both sides deadlocked at 0-0 scoreline.

Molefi Ntseki-coached team saw most of the scoring chances fall for Mmodi who was often indecisive in the final third.

Chiefs made three substitutions, bringing in Christian Saile, Mduduzi Shabalala and Reeve Frosler in place on Zitha Kwinika, Pule Mmodi and Jasond Gonzalez.

The substitutions proved to be fruitful as Saile made immediate impact after firing a powerful shot on target but he was denied the upright.

Du Preez missed another opportunity that could have handed Chiefs late win when he missed the ball in front of goals with only a goalkeeper left to beat.

Chiefs moved fourth on the Premiership table with eight points after a draw against Thwihli Thwahla.
