Pablo Franco makes frank admission after AmaZulu FC win over Cape Town City

AmaZulu FC head coach Pablo Franco Martin was delighted with a victory over Cape Town City but made a frank admission about his side.

Usuthu came back from 2-1 down to seal a 3-2 win over Eric Tinkler’s side in a DStv Premiership match on Sunday evening at the Moses Mabhida Stadium. This was their second victory this season under the guidance of the Spaniard manager.

Mbongeni Gumede opened the scoring while Junior Dion, in his first game after returning from injury, bagged a brace in additional time to help his side claim the maximum points.

Meanwhile, Cape Town City’s goals were scored by Khanyisa Mayo and Tshegofatso Nyama.

Martin admitted the Citizens are “a better team” than them currently. He feels the Western Cape side also did well enough to come out with positive results on the day.

Despite having collected two wins on the bounce, the former Simba SC mentor says Usuthu are still far from where he wants them to be.

PABLO FRANCO MARTIN SAYS CAPE TOWN CITY ARE BETTER THAN AMAZULU CURRENTLY

“We’re very far from the level I want, they were better than us, this is the reality,” he told the media after the game.

“I’m honest, I think today they deserved more. And with this, I don’t mean that our players didn’t deserve to win because they fought in the end and took their chances. But I think they are a better team than us right now.

“They are working with two gears in the same idea and you can’t see the difference. They also have good players with quality on the field. When you are on the field next to them you feel it and we suffered a lot.

“But football is about that, to know how to suffer, to know how to overcome difficulties. But we’re still at the beginning of the process. We’re very, very far from the level I want for the team.

“But it’s much better to say this, now we’re in a better position. As a coach I’m demanding, also in my personal life I think if you don’t push yourself, then there’s no way to improve.”

With the latest victory, AmaZulu escalated from the 14th place to the 4th spot on the log standings. They have collected nine points after six games.

They are next in action against Polokwane City on the road on Monday, 25 September at the Peter Mokaba Stadium at 3:00 pm.
