How Shalulile’s return solves one area of concern for Sundowns
Mamelodi Sundowns defender Mosa Lebusa has revealed how Peter Shalulile’s return from an injury spell solves one worrisome area for coach Rulani Mokwena.
The Namibian striker suffered a hamstring injury on 15 August when Sundowns beat Golden Arrows 4-0 at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.
As a result, he missed four club games and was not available for national team duty when his Namibia played Bafana Bafana.
On Friday, the impressive striker marked his return with a goal when Sundowns thrashed Bumamuru FC 4-0 in the CAF Champions League.
The exciting Lucas Ribeiro scored a brace while Lesiba Nku scored the other goal for the Tshwane giants.
Interestingly, Shalulile’s return is timeous as it coincides with their blockbuster clash with Orlando Pirates on Wednesday.
It remains to be seen whether he will be deployed in the starting team, but his availability makes this fixture exciting.
In Peter Shalulile’s absence, the pair of Ribeiro and Nku have been effective in their roles.
Ribeiro and Nku have scored nine goals combined across all competitions and are easily the best newcomers at the club.
HOW SHALULILE SOLVES THE ONE AREA OF CONCERN
Despite that, Rulani Mokwena has been concerned about one key element, which has been solved by Peter Shalulile’s return.
Lebusa revealed that Mokwena had been fretting about not having enough width in their forward line.
“Having Peter [Shalulile] is a blessing for us as a team. It’s like, every player is important in our squad.
“We are very lucky to have him back and it just increases the options we have upfront.
“You know him, every game he plays, he always tries to score. That’s what we want, like the coach said.
“When we were in Tanzania, what he [Rulani Mokwena] complained about is not having enough width.
“So I think having one more option upfront will increase our chances of being more ruthless.
“The coach always tells us that the most important thing is being better than what we were in the previous game,” Lebusa said.
