Former Orlando Pirates striker Ndumiso Mabena has signed a deal with newly promoted DStv Premiership side Polokwane City.

Mabena, who was released by Orlando Pirates at the end of the 2022/23 season, has been offered a short-term contract by Rise and Shine.

The 35-year-old penned a one-year deal with PLK City with an option for another year.

A source close to the club told FARPost that Mabena made a huge impression during his recent assessment at the club.

“He is one player who lives a clean life and is dedicated to football,” the source said. “He has been well-received by everyone at the club. Mabena brings his leadership skills and experience to the team.”

Mabena is a major coup for Polokwane City, who are looking to build on their promotion to the DStv Premiership. The striker has a wealth of experience, having played for the Buccaneers, Platinum Stars, Bloemfontein Celtic, and Royal AM.

PLK City will look to Mabena to lead the attack and add the much-needed impetus up front. The club has managed to score six goals in their opening five games.

Mabena, who is also a leader having captained Celtic has netted 60 goals and provided 36 assists in 312 games at the professional level.

He also reunites with PLK City coach Lehlohonolo Seema. They enjoyed a good working relationship at Celtic as Seema was the coach who appointed Mabena to lead the Bloem club. However, the duo formed their relations during their days at Pirates before Seema retired from playing football.

And Seema once described Mabena as an energetic and intelligent footballer with good leadership qualities.

In addition, PLK Ciy also signed former Baroka FC attacker Manuel Kambala, who was a free agent after parting ways with Motsepe Foundation Championship side Magesi FC.
