Sundowns beat Pirates to maintain unbeaten run
Mamelodi Sundowns beat Orlando Pirates 1-0 in a DStv Premiership clash on Wednesday night to maintain their unbeaten run.
The mouthwatering showdown took place at Orlando Stadium, in Soweto. Over 17,000 tickets were sold for this encounter.
Rulani Mokwena‘s boys started the showpiece on a front foot, giving Pirates a hard time in the opening minutes of the game.
In the 12th minute of the contest, a penalty was awarded to Sundowns after Themba Zwane was brought down in the box.
Ribeiro Costa stood up to take the penalty, and he did not make any mistake as he found the back of the net from the spot kick.
However, Pirates were never discouraged. They fought hard to find an equaliser, but it was never meant to be.
As the half progressed, the home side couldn’t capitalise on their goalscoring opportunities.
Rulani Mokwena’s side remained disciplined at the back, not allowing the Buccaneers to do as they pleased.
MAMELODI SUNDOWNS LEADING AT THE BREAK
After an entertaining first period, the game went into the half-time break with the Bafana Ba Style leading Pirates by a 1-0 scoreline.
In the second stanza, the Brazilians continued where they had left off before the half-time break.
But, the Happy People upped the ante – taking command of the match, with the hope of levelling the matter.
However, the Tshwane giants put in a resilient defensive performance to deny the efforts of Pirates attackers.
MAMELODI SUNDOWNS CLAIM THREE POINTS AGAINST ORLANDO PIRATES
The final whistle blew with Sundowns claiming all valuable three points.
So far, Sundowns remain the only side yet to taste a defeat across all competitions this season.
To put a cherry on top, Masandawana are unbeaten in 31 league games. They have won 25 games and drew six since September 2022.
Currently, the Sundowns are cruising nicely on the summit of the DStv Premiership log standings with 21 points after seven games.
