Casric Stars sign former Maritzburg United defender
Motsepe Foundation Championship outfit Casric Stars have signed a former Maritzburg United defender on a free transfer.
The Mpumalanga-based club came close to securing the promotion to the DStv Premiership last season. They finished third, one point behind Polokwane City [Champions] and Cape Town Spurs [2nd place].
Stars are looking to push for the promotion again in the new campaign having made a couple of signings to bolster their squad.
Now, they have completed the signing of former Maritzburg United right-back Lungelo Bhengu. The 23-year-old penned a short-term deal until the end of the season with the second-tier side.
The Pietermaritzburg-born has been training with Stars since he left United and has clearly done enough to impress the technical team.

Bhengu is one of the recent departures from the Team of Choice who are also competing in the Motsepe Foundation Championship following their relegation last season.
He played 30 games in all competitions during his stint at the Team of Choice.
The defender was with Kaizer Chiefs Youth Academy between 2015 and 2018 and thereafter joined Highlands Park where he played for their reserve team. From there, he returned to his home province KwaZulu-Natal, and signed for Maritzburg United.
At United, he started as a skipper of the Multichoice Diski Challenge side [now DStv Diski Challenge] and eventually earned a promotion to the first team. Bhengu made his senior team debut in the 2019/20 season in a match against Golden Arrows.
Meanwhile, Casric Stars are also looking to sign former Sekhukhune United winger Nkanyiso Madonsela.
Just like Bhengu, Madonsela also hails from Pietermaritzburg and has also played for Golden Arrows, Uthongathi, Durban Warriors, Thanda Royal Zulu, Royal Eagles, and Jomo Cosmos.
