What Chiefs coach Ntseki said about penalty drama
Kaizer Chiefs coach Molefi Ntseki has reacted to the penalty claim they were denied during their MTN8 semi-final clash against Mamelodi Sundowns. Chiefs were eliminated from the top eight competition following a 2-1 defeat by Masandawana at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday.
Sundowns are now through to the finals and will wait for the winner between Orlando Pirates and Stellenbosch FC.
But the game was marred by controversy towards the end after what looked like an obvious penalty denied by referee Luxolo Badi. Chiefs midfielder Mduduzi Mdantsane was kicked from the back by Sundowns player Thapelo Maseko but Badi waved play on.
MOLEFI NTSEKI COMMENTS ON THE PENALTY DECISION BY REFEREE LUXOLO BADI
Speaking at the post-match press briefing at Lucas Moripe Stadium, Ntseki believes the penalty decision could have changed the outcome of the match.
“You are all aware that we were supposed to be given a penalty. That penalty was going to be a 2-2 score. Even towards the end of the game, we had so many corner kicks. When you get corner kicks it means you are putting pressure on the opponent,” explained Ntseki.
“I think we did enough even to get the penalty of which it was not given. It’s very clear it was a penalty because of a tackle from behind and the referee didn’t give a penalty.
“If we were to get that penalty and score we would be the team to stop Sundowns,” said.
KAIZER CHIEFS RETURN TO DSTV PREMIERSHIP ACTION
Chiefs will now shift focus to league action when they host Sekhukhune United on Wednesday, 27 September. They still have the DStv Premiership, Carling Cup, and Nedbank Cup to break their eight-season trophy drought.
