MTN8 final venue and date revealed

The Premier Soccer League [PSL] has revealed the 2023/24 MTN8 final venue and date.

The 2023/24 MTN8 final draw was conducted on Sunday, 24 September 2023 at Orlando Stadium in Soweto.

It was conducted live on the PSL Channel [SuperSport channel 202] and SABC 1 immediately after the semi-final clash between Orlando Pirates and Stellenbosch FC

Mamelodi Sundowns will face the  Buccaneers in the 2023/24 MTN8 final, with the winner walking away with R8 million.

Sundowns advanced to the finals after defeating Kaizer Chiefs 3-2 on aggregate in the tournament’s semi-final two-legged clash.

Meanwhile, Pirates cruised their way to the finals after playing out to a 2-2 draw on aggregate, but The Sea Robbers had an advantage due to an away goal rule.

The final will be played on Saturday, 7 October 2023. Pirates will be the home team in this final.

To add to that, the winner of this season’s tournament will get to lift a new MTN8 trophy for the first time ever.

This comes after MTN brand manager Nomsa Chabeli announced that there will be a new-look trophy this season. This was confirmed last year in November ahead of the MTN8 final between Pirates and AmaZulu.

Pirates got to keep the old trophy as they defeated Usuthu 1-0 in a sold-out affair at Moses Mabhida Stadium.

The decision came after the MTN and the Premier Soccer League decided that they were going to retire the trophy. This is after MTN has been the sponsor for the past 14 years.

Pirates would like to defend their title as they have won four titles of the tournament since the telecommunications company took over as sponsors in 2008.
