Rulani Mokwena on outclassing Chiefs and Pirates in the same week

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena has opened up about outclassing Soweto giants – Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs in the same week.

Sundowns proved once again that they rule the roost in the PSL. On Wednesday, they beat the Sea Robbers with a narrow 1-0 scoreline in a DStv Premiership clash at Orlando Stadium.

On Saturday at the Lucas Moripe Stadium, Masandawana edged Amakhosi 2-1 in the MTN8 semifinal, second leg to book a spot in the final.

According to Mokwena, he hopes the two victories against two of Sundowns biggest rivals can make his players to start trusting each other.

“I would hope it [wins over Chiefs and Pirates] has the incredible benefits in the sense that there’s a trust that starts to develop. We can trust each other in difficult moments and we can trust each other in difficult games,” said Mokwena.

“But it’s only three points on Wednesday and it’s only a place in the final. Nothing more than that, that’s the reality.

“It’s something we should never take for granted. Not many teams and not many Sundowns teams even in the past have been able to beat Chiefs and Pirates in the same week.Let alone in a space of four days.

Mokwena further showered his troops with praise for great results in the past two matches. Sundowns remain the only team yet to lose a match so far in the 2023/24 season.

They are also on a 32-match unbeaten run and Sundowns are yet to taste defeat in the league under Mokwena.

“Big congratulations to this this fantastic group, the game of football belongs to them. The game of football belongs to the players. nd as Mamelodi Sundowns we are very fortunate to have this group of players,” he added.
