Latest update on ex-Chiefs midfielder Matsheke’s expected move to Stellenbosch FC

With Stellenbosch FC having expressed their interest in bringing ex-Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Darrel Matsheke on board, here is the latest on the expected move.

Last week, Sibongiseni Mthethwa, who was one of the Stellies’ key players left the club to join Kaizer Chiefs on the deadline day of the PSL transfer. He left the club with the difficult task of searching for a replacement with the window having shut.

However, it seems like, before Mthethwa left, Steve Barker had already had his one eye on the potential candidate to fill the void.

As first reported by FARPost last week, the Winelands side enquired about Matsheke’s services to the player’s camp. It is understood they have had positive talks.

Matsheke has yet to sign on the dotted line, however, has begun training with the club with Barker having a look into the player.

According to Matsheke’s agent Gerald Baloyi of Vodia Players Management, the talks will continue thereafter.

DARREL MATSHEKE STARTS TRAINING WITH STELLENBOSCH FC

“We have met with Stellenbosch, he has started training with them, and they have sent us his programme,” Baloyi told FARPost.

“They are still here in Johannesburg, so they will be training here. Remember they haven’t seen him for a while.

“So, he will train with them and after that, we can then continue with talks.”

Matsheke parted company with Kaizer Chiefs last season after returning from a loan spell with Moroka Swallows where he played 19 games in the DStv Premiership.

Prior to Stellenbosch’s interest, he was training with the Motsepe Foundation Championship side Casric Stars.

STELLENBOSCH TO FACE SUNDOWNS

Meanwhile, Stellenbosch defeated Orlando Pirates 1-0 on Sunday in the MTN8 semi-final second leg. However, they still crashed out of the competition with the Buccaneers going through to the final with an away goal advantage after the match ended 2-2 on aggregate score.

They remain in Gauteng as they will lock horns with Mamelodi Sundowns in the league on Wednesday, 27 September at 7:30 pm at Lucas Moripe Stadium.
