Riveiro plays down pressure to win another cup final
Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro insists there is no pressure for him to win a third cup final with the club after progressing to the MTN8 final.
Pirates made it to the MTN8 final after a 2-2 aggregate score against Stellenbosch FC, with the Buccaneers going through via the away goal rule.
They will now meet rivals Mamelodi Sundowns at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday, 7 October. Masandawana advanced to the final after a 3-2 win on aggregate against Kaizer Chiefs.
NO PRESSURE FOR JOSE RIVEIRO TO DELIVER MTN8 CUP
This will be coach Riveiro’s third final since taking over at the beginning of last season.
“Extra pressure? No, not at all. It’s a final, there is pressure for both [clubs],” he told journalists after the semi-final against Stellenbosch.
“You have a bad day, you don’t win the title. It’s going to be a nice game. Both teams are very strong, there are a lot of things to prove in that game for both sides.
“People will have the opportunity to see fantastic 22 players fighting for a title in an excellent environment in Moses Mabhida. So there is no pressure, we need to find the proper attitude to face that game, understanding that we are going to face a strong opposition as they will also do,” he said.
ORLANDO PIRATES SHIFT FOCUS TO CAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE
Before the final, Pirates will take on Jwaneng Galaxy in the second leg of their CAF Champions League second preliminary round fixture. They trail the Morena Ramoreboli coached-side following the shock defeat in Botswana. Riveiro says the club will only think of the Final after the clash with Jwaneng on Friday.
“Now our mind is to celebrate today and tomorrow we start to think about Jwaneng and after that, we will have time to prepare for our final as well,” said Riveiro.
