Why Ben Motshwari is not yet ready to start for AmaZulu
While Taariq Fielies impressed on his debut for AmaZulu FC on Monday, coach Pablo Franco Martin has explained why fellow new signing Ben Motshwari couldn’t get game time.
Usuthu played out to a 0-0 draw against Polokwane City in the only DStv Premiership match on Monday afternoon.
Fielies made his first start for the club after signing a few days ago from Cape Town City FC and was voted Man of the Match. Motshwari who was also signed most recently by the KZN side from Orlando Pirates was an unused substitute for the match.
WHY BEN MOTSHWARI ON THE BENCH AGAINST POLOKWANE CITY
Franco Martin has since explained his decision not to start Motshwari or afford him a few minutes.
“The situation is different because even if Ben trained with the team a little longer than Taariq, his problem is he has [less] game time,” said Franco Martin.
“His fitness level is inferior to the one that Fielies showed us in the previous training sessions. From there we were planning. And I wished I could have given him some game time. Because we really wanted to help him get fitter and fitter.
“But we couldn’t because of the situation of the game. And we thought it was not the right moment to risk him. Let’s see if in the next game he can get his game time because the same as I said with Fielies he is a player who is going to help us,” he said.
With the draw, AmaZulu have now moved to sixth spot on the log with 10 points from seven matches.
They have two wins, four draws, and one defeat. Usuthu will now travel to Dobsonville Stadium for a league encounter against Moroka Swallows on Friday.
