‘Amakhosi fans have become too soft’: Brilliant Khuzwayo

Former Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Brilliant Khuzwayo has claimed that the club’s fans have become ‘too soft’.

Khuzwayo was part of the Chiefs squad that last won a trophy when they were crowned 2014/15 DStv Premiership champions under coach Stuart Baxter.

The former Bafana Bafana international spent seven years with Amakhosi after he was signed from AmaZulu FC in 2012.

He made over 30 appearances overall for Chiefs before making a switch to arch-rivals Orlando Pirates at the start of 2018/19 season.

Khuzwayo was forced into early retirement by an ankle injury without kicking the ball in any official match for Pirates.

The outspoken goalkeeper agreed with one of Chiefs’ supporters on social media who insinuated that Brandon Petersen deserves to be punished for his recent costly mistakes.

Petersen failed to clear his line and conceded a goal in the first minute against Mamelodi Sundowns in the MTN8 semi-finals.

The 1-0 loss to Sundowns at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday meant Chiefs miss out on another opportunity to win silverware.

Khuzwayo insinuated that Petersen should be punished in a tweet/post he later deleted.

“[Kabelo] Metsimetsi made one mistake against Ajax Cape Town and it was game over for him. The Khosi fans have become too soft I should say.” he wrote.

Despite making costly mistakes since the start of the 2023/24 campaign, Petersen has seemingly established himself as Chiefs first-choice goalie.

In three games this season, Petersen made errors that cost his side the results. However, he has kept Itumeleng Khune, Bruce Bvuma and Bontle Molefe out of Chiefs’ starting line-up.

Petersen has made nine appearances in all competitions for Amakhosi, conceding seven goals and keeping four clean sheets.

Meanwhile, Chiefs will lock horns with Sekhukhune United in the DStv Premiership at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Wednesday. Kickoff is at 19:30.
