Njabulo Blom makes MLS Team of the Week alongside ex-Liverpool star
After scoring his first-ever goal in his professional career, Bafana Bafana midfielder Njabulo Blom has been named in the Major League Soccer Team of the Week.
Njabulo Blom made history when his fine strike all but sealed the win for St. Louis City over Bongokuhle Hlongwane‘s Minnesota United. They earned a 2-1 win on Sunday morning, and Blom’s first-ever career goal made the difference.
HOW BLOM BROKE INTO THE MLS TEAM OF THE WEEK
As a result, the former Kaizer Chiefs star was named Man of the Match after scoring the winner away from home.
He got the winning goal with 17 minutes remaining from full-time as he was on parade in the whole match. And MLS has recognized Blom for his exploits by naming him in the Team of the Week.
This is the first Njabulo Blom has been featured in the Major League Soccer Team of the Week. Furthermore, he was named along with former Liverpool star Christian Benteke who is in the books of D.C United.
The other players who were drafted into the team include goalkeeper Pedro Gallese, Xanda Silva, and Omir Fernandez.
Andres Jesson, Luciano Acosta, Thiago Aimada, John Tolkin, Justen Glad, and Jake Davis complete the team.
WHY THE RECOGNITION IS IMPORTANT FOR BLOM
What makes this equally important for Njabulo Blom is the fact that it came after his first-ever goal in his career. Interestingly, the Bafana midfielder spent four-and-a-half seasons in the PSL without finding the back of the net.
In addition, this milestone comes after he was drafted into the Bafana Bafana preliminary squad for international friendlies.
Further, Bafana are scheduled to play two international friendly matches against Eswatini and Ivory Coast respectively.
Blom is set to return to Bafana having been overlooked from the squad that recently faced Namibia and DR Congo.
