How Rivaldo Coetzee is adjusting to his new role at Sundowns
Mamelodi Sundowns star Rivaldo Coetzee has opened up and shared how he is adjusting to his new role at the club.
Coetzee, who made a return to playing football after a long injury layoff has been an important player for the Tshwane giants this campaign.
So far, the Bafana Bafana international has made 10 appearances in all competitions for Sundowns. He has displayed solid and consistent performances always whenever given an opportunity to play.
The former Cape Town Spurs player is a natural centre-back, but he has been playing as a midfielder in the past matches under the guidance of coach Rulani Mokwena.
His role is similar to Manchester City star John Stones, a centre-back excelling in the midfield.
RIVALDO COETZEE ON PLAYING AS A MIDFIELDER
According to the 26-year-old, it’s difficult playing in the middle of the park, however he is enjoying playing there and likes the challenge.
“Look it’s never easy to adjust to new things for us as footballers,” said Coetzee.
“For a lot of us you know, we like to be comfortable but then there’s some of us who likes the challenges as well.
“We opened up on this formation or role for me since the second week of preseason you know, so we have had quite a lot of time to work on it.”

Coetzee further predicted that he can become a better Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder by playing many matches as the season goes on.
“So far, I’ve been enjoying it and I feel like I’m growing into it more now and I think it can only get better as the season progresses,” he added.
