Molefi Ntseki reveals tactical tweak to get more from Edson Castillo
Kaizer Chiefs coach Molefi Ntseki has revealed a tactical tweak he has made in order to get more out of Edson Castillo.
Castillo has displayed consistent performances for Amakhosi despite the team’s struggles in the DStv Premiership this season as they’ve been blowing hot and cold.
The midfield engine; Castillo has found the back of the net four times in 11 appearances in all competitions so far in his first season in SA.
The 29-year-old is a versatile player in the midfield. He flourishes whenever he plays as a defensive midfielder [number six] or in a more advanced role going forward [number eight].
THE TACTICAL CHANGE MOLEFI NTSEKI MADE ON EDSON CASTILLO
In the previous matches, Castillo switched positions with Yusuf Maart having a more a more advanced role [number eight].
“I think he has proved us right in terms of the qualities that he possesses as an individual. For the past four games he has been playing as an eight,” said Ntseki.
“We could realise that playing him as part of six, he has to cover two big distances to get into the goals and score. But now that he’s playing more as an eight, he knows he’s got cover whenever he has to lose the ball or go into transition.”
“In our profiling of Castillo, we were fully aware that he’s more of an eight and a six because he’s got a few games playing for his team back home in Venezuela. That’s the player we needed, that is why the profile was done and why we ended up bringing him to the Chiefs.

The former Bafana Bafana coach further praised Maart who has been playing as a defensive midfielder lately.
“I think Yusuf has been doing very well in the number six. I think it was a very good discovery from our side to say he can be a conductor of this orchestra playing him as a six.
“Congratulations, well done to Yusuf in the manner in which he has handled himself as a six,” he added.
