AmaZulu FC appoint Director of Football

DStv Premiership side AmaZulu FC have announced the appointment of their new Director of Football as they continue to restructure the club.

Usuthu have been searching for a Director of Football after announcing the position a few months ago.

The club has since appointed Portuguese-born Pedro Dais with immediate effect. The 50-year-old brings a wealth of experience from his past as a former professional player, coach, and director of football. His work has taken him to the USA, Canada, New Zealand, and his native Portugal.

AmaZulu president Sandile Zungu is confident, “after a series of interviews,” they are sure they have the right man for the job.

WHY AMAZULU HAVE APPOINTED A DIRECTOR OF FOOTBALL

The AmaZulu supremo said his primary assignment would be to develop the Usuthu way of playing.

“He has made Usuthu his assignment. He impressed us in the interviews. We just could not wait for him to land here and begin his role in assisting AmaZulu to develop the Usuthu way and to see greater intervention between the development ranks and the senior team,” Zungu said in a statement.

Dais’ role is to oversee and ensure that the club reaps the full rewards of their investment for years to come.

The Portuguese mentor has previously engaged with academies in Pretoria, Rustenburg, and Johannesburg in 2015. That networking exercise took him to now-defunct Platinum Stars, Ajax Cape Town, and Santos over two weeks.

He is a highly respected figure in Portugal, where he played for top club Sporting CP as a striker in the early 90s. He hung his boots in 2005, playing his swansong season at Estrela da Calheta.

His appointment is a significant coup for AmaZulu. He is well-known for his ability to develop young players and build a winning culture.

He arrives months after Spaniard Pablo Franco Martin took over as head coach. The Durban outfit is 10th after picking two wins and four draws in eight matches. The other two games ended in draws.
